Solway Moss (small), oil on canvas, 10" x 12" 2008 © Claudia Massie
Although I'm working mostly with the Perthshire landscape right now, I also still like to use my old sketches and photos from the dark days of the Solway Mosses occasionally. The little painting here is one that I completed this week. I like the painting in the foreground most, but I think the whole thing works ok and gives an idea of that weird flat, peaty, puddlely expanse.
A good thing this week is the news that I will be exhibiting at my favourite Perthshire gallery next year which is, of course, the Ruthven Gallery in Auchterarder. I'll be taking part in the Spring exhibition along with five or so other artists, showing landscapes. Another good gallery near here is Frames in Perth where I went to get some framing done yesterday. Also there organising her framing was Jean Martin whose pictures were outstanding and I felt totally humbled looking at her excellent work laid out across the floor. She is exhibiting at Flying Colours in London next year and it looks like being an awesome show from what I saw yesterday.
Unsolicited Tourist Advice of the Day: If hungry in Perth, Cafe Tabou is the place to go. We were there yesterday and, as always, it was ace. Roast partridge yum yum...

Oh Wow.
Jean Martin is an excellent artist and I was very lucky to have her as a tutor at Dundee College - her work is fantastic.
Glad you are getting in the galleries near you now - any interest from Frames?
